Contemporary Family Home: OffSET Shed House by Irving Smith Architects
Located in the coastal community north of Gisborne, OffSEt Shed House is a family home designed by Irving Smith Architects and has won a lot of awards such as the Finalist HOME Of The Year 2015. The defined panels make the facade look very well organized and the clean sharp lines show the amazing architecture. The view is just mesmerizing and that’s why glass panels are used to give a panoramic view of the outside. Since it’s always known that “Less is more”, this contemporary house successfully showcases this concept as you can see how the inside has been simply furnished and decorated.
The architects describe the project saying, “From a context of accrued bach-esk dwellings in a south facing coastal surf community, a strategy of sequencing building sets (aka surf) was generated to scale new form to its surrounds. Building sets are then offset to allow seasonal living and circulation options for variations in wind and sun exposure. Summer opens and invites in community; with diagonal movement connecting offset and shaded external spaces. Here living holds minimal interior use, with summer circulation defining informal house boundaries, and the control of sand.”
